Q. Is it necessary for players to have football experience?

A. No, we support a variety of sports for youth of all ages and skill levels. We offer children the opportunity to play recreational sports regardless of experience and background.

Q. Is youth Tackle Football safe?

A. Although they certainly can occur, injuries at the youth football level are rare. Prior to middle school, boys are not generally big and strong enough to hurt each other. Interestingly, a national study conducted found that there is a higher percentage of injuries in soccer than in tackle football.

The Legacy Longhorns is firmly committed to doing what we reasonably can to maximize child safety. Our coaches go through background checks and screening and are required to be certified with AAU Youth Football. Additionally, we mandate that trained medical personnel are on the sidelines of every Legacy Longhorns game. Please be reassured in knowing that our coaches will work with your children teaching them proper football and cheer techniques. All practices, games, and cheer routines will be designed with safety as our number one measure.

Q. Should my son wait until middle school to begin playing Tackle Football?

A. No, if your son waits until middle school to begin playing tackle football, he will be at a huge disadvantage. Most successful middle school players learned to play football at the youth football level. Boys who try out for a middle school team without any tackle football experience have a difficult time competing with their peers who have youth tackle football experience. In addition, because of the large number of middle school players, middle school coaches often have very little time to teach beginners the fundamentals of tackle football. When players participate in youth tackle football, he will already know the fundamentals of tackle football, including how to properly tackle, and how to protect himself when he is tackled.

Q. Isn’t it really hot outside during the summer months?

A. Yes, the month of August in particular can be really hot. Therefore, it’s imperative that your child drink plenty of water during the football season. This includes the night before practice and during the day before practice. We cannot stress this enough. DRINK WATER!

Q. What if we have a family vacation scheduled during the season?

A. Football requires significant preparation and practice as well as a strong commitment to the team. We teach that attendance is mandatory for all practices, for a variety of reasons. The first two weeks are mandatory conditioning sessions and required before a player can participate in contact practices with full equipment. Players that register after August 4th, are still required to complete two weeks of conditioning drills, while the rest of the team is doing contact drills. Late-arriving players must still complete two weeks of conditioning drills while the rest of the team is doing contact drills, this causes players to get behind and miss out on what the rest of the team is learning. This creates a major inconvenience for the coaches and likely will put your player at a disadvantage. Therefore, players are strongly encouraged to change any plans that interfere with the practice start dates. However. if you must schedule a family vacation during the season, please inform your Head Coach as soon as possible to understand how your team and your child will be impacted, prior to your departure. Remember, when players continuously miss practices, it can affect the entire team.

Q. What rules does the Legacy Longhorns Football play under?

A. The Legacy Longhorns are proud member of AAU and uses AAU football rules for youth football.

Q. How much will my child play?

A. All players WILL play. Coaches will determine what positions each player is best suited for and as a result some will play more plays than others. Every division has a minimum number of plays that each child must play during games.

Q. As a parent, how can contribute?

A. Parents will be asked to assist with transportation, game day snacks, and lots of excitement. There are always volunteer opportunities available. Please contact us directly to discuss or speak to your team mom or a board member for more information.

Q. How can I become a Legacy Longhorns Football Coach? What is required to coach or volunteer?

A. We would love for you to join the LEGACY, as a volunteer or coach. If you would like to become a coach or volunteer, please complete the Volunteer Interest Form under the Resources section on the website, we will be in contact.

All coaches and volunteers, regardless of position, are required to pass a national background check and purchase an $40-$55 AAU membership certification. This is required of all volunteers that provide regular service and/or have repetitive access to youth participants.

Q. Other than paying the registration fee and purchasing or renting equipment, is there any additional costs?

Q. Where does registration fees goes towards?

A. Your registration fees go directly towards the athlete’s full football uniform package, practice jerseys, cheerleading uniform package cheer accessories, cost of practice fields, and league participation fees. The Legacy Longhorns organization work tirelessly throughout the year to cover additional costs associated with football and cheer, included but not limited to playoffs fees, league equipment and technology, insurance, cheer accessories, equipment reconditioning, new equipment purchases, fees for use of the fields for games, city custodians, referees, field lights, and concessions stands.

Q. What type of sports environment should I expect?

A. Expect a positive, safe, and friendly environment! We DO NOT tolerate inappropriate behavior by parents nor coaches. Parents are expected to set a positive example to their children. For that reason, we do not tolerate gossip, negativity, toxicity, slander, excessive anger, unsportsmanlike behavior, profanity, disrespect, or any of the above. Parents are required to sign a Code of Conduct upon completing registration. Consequently, if inappropriate behavior is witnessed, a designated board member will give one warning to correct behavior, second offenses will result in dismissal from the organization. Sports parents need to create an environment where bad behavior isn’t accepted, and it begins with each of us! We simply ask that both parents and coaches model appropriate behavior at any and all Legacy Longhorns practices and games.

Q. Is there a refund policy if my player changes his mind and decides not to play?

A. Refunds for Documented medical and relocation only and before August 1st only per policy in “Registration” section of website.
