Key Focus Areas: Safety: Emphasizing concussion awareness and player safety. Positive Coaching: Developing athletes' character and life skills, not just winning. Rules Knowledge: Understanding AAU and football and cheer rules. For Texas AAU Youth Football & Cheer Coaches Requirements: AAU Membership: You must obtain an AAU Non-Athlete Membership (for coaches) for the current season. Background Check: A mandatory background screening is required for all coaches, the price varies from $40-$50 for a annual membership. USA Football Certification: This includes training like the "Concussion in Sports Course," with recertification needed annually. Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) Certification:
COACH RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Player Development Teach fundamental football skills (blocking, tackling, positions, footwork, conditioning, etc.). Develop players’ understanding of offensive, defensive, and special teams concepts. Provide individual feedback and help each athlete improve. Ensure proper warm-ups, cool-downs, and skill progression throughout the season. 2. Practice Planning & Execution Create structured practice plans with drills, stations, and objectives. Manage the flow and timing of practices to maximize learning. Run safe, organized, and engaging sessions that build team skills. Evaluate player performance regularly and adjust drills accordingly. 3. Game Management Create game strategies, playbooks, and weekly game plans. Make real-time decisions regarding substitutions, adjustments, and gameplay situations. Analyze opponent strengths and weaknesses to prepare the team. Manage sideline organization and maintain player focus. 4. Safety & Injury Prevention Enforce safe tackling techniques and proper use of equipment. Ensure all players have properly fitted helmets, pads, and gear. Monitor hydration, rest, and weather conditions (heat index, lightning protocol). Respond appropriately to injuries and follow return-to-play policies. 5. Leadership & Team Culture Model sportsmanship, discipline, and teamwork. Foster a positive, respectful environment among players, parents, and staff. Address behavioral issues consistently and fairly. Encourage confidence, resilience, and accountability. 6. Communication Communicate schedules, expectations, and updates to players and parents. Hold preseason and mid-season parent meetings as needed. Work with team moms/managers on logistics. Coordinate with league officials, school administration, or athletic directors. 7. Administrative Duties Handle player evaluations, roster decisions, and position assignments. 8. Staff Management (Head Coach) Delegate roles to assistant coaches. Provide guidance, mentorship, and structure for coaching staff. Ensure all coaches understand safety expectations and coaching philosophy. Lead weekly coaching meetings and game-planning sessions. 9. Equipment & Field Management Coordinate setup and breakdown for practices and games. Ensure fields are safe, lined, and ready for use. 10. Player Support & Mentorship Encourage healthy habits, sportsmanship, and discipline. Help players build confidence and develop character on and off the field.
